Removing version risk from a regulated fulfillment operation
Production documents lived in shared drives and email threads, in an operation where the wrong version could be printed into thousands of kits. Northlane built a document system that makes the current approved version instant, auditable, and unambiguous.

The business problem
Versioning ran on filenames and memory. Approval history was difficult to verify, and production documents were scattered across shared drives and email threads. In an operation that prints documents into thousands of kits, that is not an inconvenience; it is a material risk.
What Northlane built
Northlane built a typed document-management application with version histories, formal approve/reject controls, comments, role-based permissions, and security hardening. Every production asset now has a single source of truth, and every approval leaves a record.
Why the approach worked
Generic file storage could hold these documents. It could not enforce how this operation approves, versions, and consumes them. The value was not storage; it was enforcing the operation's own rules.
